Better news the gospel brings . . .

“Run, John, run. The law commands
But gives neither feet nor hands.
Better news the gospel brings;
It bids us fly and gives us wings.”

—John Bunyan, quoted by Jerry Bridges in The Discipline of Grace (Colorado Springs, CO: NavPress, 1994), 90.

  3. In response to today’s (6/16/08) devotional by Jerry Briges read: The Discipline of Grace. The beliver in Christ can cry out celebrate – Thanks be to God – who always causes us to triumph in Christ! In and of our selves, we cannot obey the Law apart from God’s grace and Spirits power! The law provides us with the mind of God and therefore the commands of God. Through Jesus Christ, God provides the believer with the hands, the feet – and the wings – to want to please and obey Him. God gives us grace and power to do so!

  4. How I love this quote. Why do we spend so much energy trying, trying, trying to run, when it’s flight he offers??
