The city that has foundations
Those who looked for the city that has foundations sought it for no other reason than that its maker and builder is God.
It is because it is the city of God, the structure in which he has embodied his own perfection, in which his thoughts and purposes for his own stand objectified, that it forms a worthy object of the supreme religious quest of the believer.
In it is God at every point, and those who dwell in it see him constantly. The measure of their desire for it becomes the measure of their love for God.
