The gospel and good works

If our works are not motivated by God’s love to us and do not flow out of reconciliation with Him, then we are still at enmity with Him. And if we are at enmity with Him, how can our works be done out of disobedience? All good works therefore demand that our conscience first be purged from dead works, and that can only be done by God’s revealing to us that all our sins are forgiven for the sake of Christ’s blood.
