Josh Etter, Fred Eaton and Bart Byl are three brothers in Christ whose friendship is rooted in the gospel.
Fred and Bart are members of Crossway Community Church in Surrey, BC, where Fred serves on the pastoral team. Josh is a member of Redeemer Church of Arlington, VA. Both Crossway and Redeemer are part of the Sovereign Grace family of churches.
We’ve all spent far too much time looking inward instead of upward (Col 3:1), only to futility and despair. This blog was born out of our own need to live each day in the good of the gospel.

Hey guys,
Love what you are doing. Being a Mac guy i also love having the widget. Keep it up. Also, I am not sure if you noticed but your date has been off by a day since the beginning of September.

Love your site! This gives me much to chew on as I prepare my own blog to spur on Christians to live missionally and spread the gospel to the ends of the earth.
Keep spreading the Fame of Jesus,
Ken
Your blog makes the WWW worthwhile. I struggle to think of better uses of technology than First Importance. I thank God for y’all in bringing First Importance into existence.

So good to see you guys making such a great contribution to the blog world.
Blessings,

Outstanding work! I use it daily, recommend it to others, and feature it on my church’s home page.
Hey guys, love the blog!
Thanks so much for this blog. I have it emailed to me every morning. What a great way to start the day! You help me preach the gospel to my heart and the hearts of others. Thank you. Thanks be to God.
Your daily gospel meditations help me to obey the command of Scripture: “Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly” (Col 3:16), in which it seems that the “Word of Christ” (like in Rom 10) is not a general referene to Scripture, but a specific reference to the Gospel.
This “gospel dwelling richly” also seems to be the primary means for “being filled with the Spirit” (cf Eph 5:18, the parallel passage).
Which leads us to the “coup de grace”:
Gal 5:16 “But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.”
God bless your efforts!
Bill

I cannot count how many times the quote of the day has blessed my heart so deeply. Thanks for the Dashboard Widget. :)
God richly bless you all.

Thanks for the constant God-centered, gospel focus. Your website has been a blessing to me since its inception. Now that I am running a blog (missionsmandate.org) I appreciate your work on a new level. Keep it up; we need the refocusing!

This is one of my favorite blogs. I think your pastor might be Tony Walsh? I used to attend his brother Dan’s church in Daytona Beach. Dan preached a year long series called, “Living in the Good of the Gospel.” This site always reminds me of his Gospel-centered messages.
Thanks for all you are doing.

Brothers- I too know the “futility and despair” of only looking inward. What a gift this website and its content has been! Many, many times the Lord has graciously used these quotes to cause my cold heart to sing. Please keep them coming! …These things are life or death.
My dad told me that I should follow you when I got Twitter a few days ago and I can see why! The quotes have been a great way to help kick start my dad with a good dose of the gospel. I really appreciate you guys posting in the morning. God bless you and your blog!
In Christ,
Olivia
guys, great site! i love the Gospel-centeredness of everything that’s been posted/quoted. thanks for following me on Twitter! i look forward to reading these quotes!
just curious. any chance you’ll add CS Lewis, Dietrich Bonhoefer, Francis Schaeffer, or some more of the Puritans (i.e. John Bunyan)?
great resource!
blessings,
J. D.
JD, yes, we’ve got quotes from all those authors. There’s a search function in the sidebar.
Thanks! I misunderstood “Favorite Authors” as being the ONLY authors you’ve quoted on the site. Great!
Because He lives, J. D.
Hey brothers! I just wanted to thank you for your faithful service to our Lord by providing this site to the world. It is a daily refresher/challenger for me personally. Thanks for helping me to look to Christ everyday.
Blessings,
Jeremy
Thanks for your work. Whenever I send an email to my small group I always put a juicy quote from your website at the end (with a hyperlink to the original blogpost). I’ve had multiple comments from people who appreciate it.
Thanks so much Jay.
Thank you for taking the time to maintain your blog, it has served very helpful in providing substantial material. One note, I signed up for the email but continue to not receive it – I do however receive the rss feed.

I can very much relate! Thank you so much for serving us as well!
Thanks for your ministry to an “unseen” community!!
Just wanted to let you know what a blessing this blog is to me! I follow your Twitter account, so that I have to make a special effort to click your link and read it, so that I kind of force myself to make special time to be reminded of the gospel of our faithful Savior. Thanks so much for continuing to do this!
